The geological museum Sigri

The 1994 opened geological museum of the UNESCO-Geoparc of the petrified forest of Lesbos island is one of the best geological museums in southern Europe. It provides to you a great introduction to understand how the volcanoes created the island of Lesbos around 60-20 million years ago and how the petrified forest in the Sigri area was created by nature. In the museum you will find maps, diagrams and even a lab in which you may feel an earthquake. Everything is well designed and explained. There is a great collection of fossil wood from all over the world to show fossils of different geological times of earth history. You should see this museum before you visit the UNESCO-Geoparc of the petrified forest!
