In the 1990s, many locals left the Methana Peninsula to find work in Athens. Visitor numbers at the once-famous thermal baths also declined—the region risked fading from view.

Wanting to help make Methana visible again, I returned to Germany and completed comprehensive training in tourism and travel management at a guide agency in Berlin.

My first assignment came in 1995 in Cyprus, where I worked as both Land Rover driver and tour guide. Soon after, I designed my own walking itinerary on Santorini and led my first group there in 1996. A year later, I guided my first study hiking tour on Santorini for Natur & Kultur – Studienreisen—a real milestone.

That same year I met my future colleague and friend Dr. Tom Pfeiffer. Together we founded VolcanoDiscovery GbR in 2005, which we co-ran until 2014. Today, although our companies are independent, we regularly cooperate again, often co-leading tours on Santorini and other volcanic Greek islands.
