Culinary Hiking Tour — Walking, Exploring & Savoring
This journey takes you to a little-known region of Greece, rich in breathtaking nature, landscapes, geology, and history.
We will stay on the beautiful island of Poros and, during our hikes through the Troizen–Methana–Poros region, gather fresh ingredients for the culinary creations of Katerina Sakelariou. In the evenings, she will share her secret cooking tips and introduce us to the authentic flavors of Greek cuisine.
By day, we’ll explore ancient sites, volcanoes, and peaceful woodlands. Along the way, we’ll discover and photograph rare plants, including stunning orchids. Tobias Schorr will reveal the fascinating geology and history of the area and offer valuable photography tips to help you capture its beauty.
A perfect trip during the most magical season, when nature is in full bloom!
Day 1: Arrival at the Athens airport and transfer to Poros
Meet at the airport and transfer to Piraeus to catch the high-speed ferry to Poros. In the evening, we’ll enjoy dinner at one of Poros’ charming tavernas.
Day 2: Hinikg tour to the temple of Poseidon
In the morning, we set out along beautiful trails through pine groves on the island of Kalavria, which is connected to Poros. Soon we reach a high plateau, once home to the famous Temple of Poseidon. Today you can still sense where this magnificent sanctuary once stood, and archaeologists have uncovered additional structures in the area.
During our hike, we will forage wild herbs, which we’ll later turn into delicious dishes together with Katerina Sakelariou in the evening.
Day 3: Galatas and the mythical history of the region
Today we cross by boat from Poros to the Peloponnese mainland. Near Galatas, we visit a little-known acropolis. More than 3,600 years ago, local rulers were buried here, and we’ll explore impressive tholos tombs similar to those in Mycenae. According to legend, this is also said to be the burial place of the hero Theseus, who defeated the Minotaur on Crete.
Later, Katerina Sakelaropoulou will prepare traditional Greek specialties with us, cooked in a wood-fired oven — an authentic and delicious culinary experience.
The homeland of the mythical hero Theseus
Theseus will appear throughout our journey, and of course we cannot miss exploring what remains of his hometown, Troizen. In antiquity, Troizen was an important city and home to a renowned healing sanctuary dedicated to the god Asclepius (Aesculapius). For more than two thousand years, people came here seeking health and recovery.
Afterwards, we visit the impressive gorge that still supplies much of the region’s drinking water today. On the way, we walk through picturesque lemon groves, their fresh citrus scent filling the air and creating a truly Mediterranean atmosphere.
Day 5: The historic volcano of Methana
Anyone who has visited the Saronic Gulf region but hasn’t seen the historic Methana volcano has truly “seen nothing”! It’s one of the absolute highlights of Greece.
We’ll hike up to the former center of the volcano, exploring its fascinating geological formations. Afterwards, we continue to the high plateaus of Methana, which in March transform into a breathtaking sea of blooming anemones.
Our journey then takes us to the east coast, where we enjoy fresh local specialties prepared by a talented chef from Spain, who masterfully combines Greek and Spanish cuisine into an unforgettable culinary experience.
Day 6: Excursion to the ancient theatre of Epidavros
The Theatre of Epidaurus and the adjoining Sanctuary of Asclepius are among the most impressive and best-preserved ancient sites in Greece. Built in the 4th century BC, the grand theatre is world-famous for its extraordinary acoustics and perfectly balanced architecture. The nearby sanctuary of Asclepius, the god of healing, once attracted pilgrims from all over Greece seeking cures and divine aid.
Even the journey there is beautiful, offering sweeping views of the Saronic Gulf and the Peloponnese. After visiting the magnificent archaeological site, we continue to Palia Epidavros to enjoy a meal in a traditional taverna. Later, we discover the smaller ancient theatre in this former harbor town — just as charming and atmospheric as the great theatre itself!
Day 7: Free Day & Time for Spontaneous Shared Activities
Today we can relax, go shopping, or enjoy spontaneous activities! There’s so much to do on and around the island of Poros during your free time.
Day 8: Return to Athens and departure
Depending on your return flight time, we will either take the high-speed ferry back to Piraeus or travel by land to the airport.

Physical requirements
A well-balanced mix of scenic drives, gentle walks, and longer hikes. You should be comfortable with hikes of 3–8 km (2–6 hours), as well as with rocky or uneven paths and some inclines. We take plenty of breaks along the way to observe and discover interesting things, but a generally good physical condition is required.
There is no strict age limit — anyone meeting the above requirements is welcome. However, children from 10 years and older should already be accustomed to hiking.
