Reiseberichte der Santorin-Reisen

In May 2009, together with Tom Pfeiffer, I led a group of Americans and Germans on Santorini. Of course we went along the caldera to Ia, we visited the famous Minoan excavations, hiked over the Profitis Ilias peak to the ancient city of Thera and explored the oldest volcanoes in the vicinity of Akrotiri. Spring brought us wonderfully blooming meadows and even orchids were discovered. A highlight was the trip with Sosti's boat to the volcanic islands of Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni and to the island of Thirasia. On the drive back to Akrotiri we were able to admire the caldera walls and their hundreds of volcanic layers, lava flows and pumice quarries. Part of the group followed the journey up to Methana.
