Santorini in spring time may 2019

The geological hiking tour to Santorini island in May 2019 was an great experience. We visited all important areas of the entire island. It was also a great introduction of the volcanology of Santorini.
Hiking tour from Thira to Oia
Hiking around Acrotiri
Hiking from Pyrgos to Emporio
The excavation of ancient Thera
Hiking on Thirasia island
Vlychada with its pumice rocks
A feedback of the Santorini-Tour
Hello dear Tobias,
We’ve now been away from Santorini for a good three weeks and are back in familiar surroundings. And yet: the shared experiences on that spectacular ring-shaped island with its volcanic past (and present—fumaroles on Nea Kameni) are still very much alive.
All in all, our journey under your guidance was extremely varied (which is exactly what we had hoped for in advance) and covered a wide range of topics. I remember our nocturnal photo forays with the greatest pleasure—we could easily have had more of those. And I think Uta would have enjoyed them just as much…
We were particularly fascinated by the wonderful stratification of the volcanic events, which was truly textbook—especially as seen from Sostis’s boat.
The fact that, on our hikes, a tiny glimpse of the mysterious world of mineralogy was revealed to us is thanks to your enthusiasm for this field. Some of that rubbed off on us non-experts.
And if archaeology was not neglected—for you or for us—that was a special delight to me.
Warm greetings from the volcano-less, yet no less hot, North.
