Destinations in then islands of the Dodecanese
The islands of the Dodecanese are famous for Rhodes, Karpathos or Kos. They are culturally influenced by the coast of Asia Minor and are also Italian due to their former affiliation with Italy. The islands of Kos and Nisyros are particularly interesting for us because both are of volcanic origin. They belonged to a caldera that was about 4 to 5 times larger than that of Santorini. 140,000 years ago there was one of the largest volcanic eruptions in this region. Even today Kos is not only covered by layers of pumice up to 70-150 m thick. There are also hot springs on Kos and the island of Nisyros is the most active part of this volcanic archipelago. Both islands are ideal places for hiking and for studying ancient and natural history.

If you fancy learning all about the nature, history and geology of the islands of Kos & Nisyros on a guided hiking and study tour, then you can join one of Tobias Schorr's small groups! Since 1996 he has regularly led tour groups to the volcanoes in Greece. Its main territory is the volcanic peninsula of Methana, which is in many ways similar to the volcanic island of Nisyros. His trips are suitable for everyone who is fit and interested in the nature, history, geology of Greece. The hikes and round trips last an average of 4-6 hours and there is always enough time for explanations, to take pictures or just to enjoy! The size of the groups is on average 4-8 people.
